Wife of Ram is a thriller film starring Lakshmi Manchu and Priyadarshi Pulikonda in lead roles. Vivek Kuchibhotla produced the film and Vijay Yelakanti directed it.
Wife of Ram Story
The film starts with the tragic death of the husband (Samrat Reddy) and the unborn child of Deeksha (Lakshmi Manchu) while they were on a vacation. Deeksha files a complaint that someone killed her husband. The police ignore the case and try to close it as an accident without proper investigation. Deeksha starts investigating the case herself and soon ends up in a web up of powerful people, dangerous criminals, and drug dealers. The rest of the story is about how she solves the case and what she has to deal with on her way.
Story Analysis
The beginning of the film is boring and it moves at a snail’s pace for a good 20 minutes. This is not a big deal for other Genres but thriller films should have a racy screenplay. The investigation could have been better as almost every time she gets a clue without any effort. The conflict is not established throughout the first half and the story becomes nothing but a simple investigation. The interval twist is passable and is not exciting. The second half has a comparatively fast pace and the conflict is established. The pre-climax episode is racy and the twists in the story are interesting. The last scene in the film has nothing to do with the story but it only helps to give a message and to establish the characterization of Deeksha. The story is linear and the presence of Deeksha is felt almost in every frame of the film.
Performances
Lakshmi Manchu is present throughout the film and the story is told from her perspective. She gives her best but it doesn’t help the film in any way. She is not convincing in her role and her voice modulation is poor. Someone else could have made the film intense as most of the film depends on her character. Priyadarshi is good in his role within a limited scope. His character could have been active at some point in the film instead of being a spectator. Samrat Reddy is apt for the role and his performance is convincing. Adarsh Balakrishna is superb in his role and he made the second half much more engaging.
Technical Analysis
The story requires much more research and there are many elements that need development. The dialogues are average. The background score composed by Raghu Dixit is impressive and provides much-needed suspense in many scenes. The cinematography is good but the camera work could have been better. The production values are good and the editing is fine. The direction should have been better as the entire film is stood on a single idea and there are no other elements of interest and conflict. The film fails to develop suspense visually and it’s always made so easy for the protagonist to achieve what she wants.
Conclusion
Wife of Ram is a serious film without diluting the theme with commercial elements. The film takes a while to get engaging and is watchable for the audience of thriller Genre.
