Telugu movies of 2018 started to slow down and there are no crazy projects left. The summer season is almost over and the scheduled movie releases are coming to a halt. The majority of the big-budget Telugu movies 2018 have been successful so far. The year started with the failure of the much-awaited Pawan Kalyan starrer, Agnyaathavaasi. Jai Simha and Bhagamathie were successful considering their medium budgets. Chalo, Tholi Prema, experimental film Awe, and Kirrak party satisfied both critics and audience alike. MLA and Chal Mohan Ranga were average grossers. Ram Charan starrer Rangasthalam released to unanimous positive talk and became the blockbuster as anticipated. Mahesh Babu starrer Bharat ane nenu continued the success of Rangasthalam, delivering another blockbuster. Allu Arjun starrer Naa peru Surya naa illu India was released to mixed reviews and is still running.
The biopic of actress Savitri, Mahanati, released to positive reviews and is having a successful run. Nani starrer Krishnarjuna Yuddham and the debut movie of Akash Puri, Mehbooba, released to mixed reviews. Although the success rate is still low, the success of prestigious projects gave much-needed hope to the Telugu film industry.
Upcoming Films of 2018
Almost all major projects scheduled for this year have already been released while some others postponed. The remaining movies include Rajugadu, Nela Ticket, Officer, Taxiwala, 1945, Amar Akbar Anthony, Naa Nuvve, Pandagala Vachadu, Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu, That is Mahalakshmi, Saakshyam, ShailajaReddy Alludu, and Savyasachi. The prestigious projects Prabhas starrer Saaho and Chiranjeevi starrer Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy are expected to release in 2019.
The crime thriller Officer starring Nagarjuna Akkineni and Directed by Ram Gopal Varma has low expectations. Rajugadu starring Raj Tarun is a routine commercial movie with regular action and comedy elements. Nela Ticket starring Ravi Teja has good expectations as the Director Kalyan Krishna has a successful career so far. The promotions of the team are commendable. The latest movie of Vijay Devarakonda, Taxiwala, is an experimental movie with a team of youngsters. It has made a lot of buzz with its out-of-the-box promotions.
Other Projects
1945 starring Rana is a Tamil/Telugu bilingual movie. Amar Akbar Anthony has a successful combination of Ravi Teja and Srinu Vaitala. The combination alone promises good openings for the film. Naa Nuvve starring Kalyan Ram has low expectations, but the visuals of PC Sreeram are breathtaking. Pandagala Vachadu and Veera Bhoga Vasanta Rayalu both have Nara Rohith in the lead role and have low expectations. Saakshyam starring Bellamkonda Sreenivas is a regular commercial movie without anything interesting so far. That is Mahalakshmi (initially titled Queen once again) is the remake of the Bollywood blockbuster movie Queen. It is an engaging comedy-drama. As the movie depends heavily on the performance, Tamannaah decides the fate of the movie. The talented Director Neelakanta is handling the project, which promises a decent output.
Shailaja Reddy Alludu and Savyasachi both have Naga Chaitanya in the lead role and are directed by Maruthi and Chandoo Mondeti respectively. Both these films are of different genres and there are a lot of expectations on these movies. Naga Chaitanya started selecting scripts carefully, so these movies are among the much-awaited this year. Apart from them, the makers have scheduled the untitled project of NTR and Trivikram for this Dussehra, but there is no official confirmation about the same. The project of Ram Charan and Boyapati Srinu is on the cards but it may release on Sankranthi next year.
