Rajinikanth’s latest movie ‘Kaala’ is all set to release on 7th June 2018. Despite the release date getting closer, there is no speed in the Telugu version’s promotions and the buzz is considerably low for a Superstar’s movie. Kaala has a lot of craze in Tamil Nadu and the business is phenomenal.
Kaala is not like other movies of Rajinikanth as it has no glamour. Rajinikanth is playing the role of an aged don as in his previous movie ‘Kabali’. The audio is not well received and the hype surrounding the film is very low. The producer Dhanush has been adamant about Telugu rights and demanded Rs 45 crores but Telugu dubbed version’s business is said to be closed at Rs 30 Crores considering the string of flops Rajinikanth has been facing. The previous releases of Superstar have been commercial failures in Telugu states resulting in financial losses to distributors. If the film gets released without any buzz, the collections on the first day will be below. There are 3 Telugu films (both direct and dubbed) getting released on 1st June, and another 3 films are getting released on 14th June. The Hollywood film ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ is also releasing on the same day along with Kaala, which is making the competition tougher.
The makers are planning to raise the hype surrounding the film by a Grand pre-release event and trailer. It is rumored that Megastar Chiranjeevi will be the chief guest of the event. The Tamil trailer was released recently and is receiving a positive response from the audience. There is a leaked version of the story circulating on the internet. As per the story, the film is set in the second-largest slum in Asia, Dharavi. Rajinikanth and Nana Patekar are close friends but have diverse opinions about society. Rajinikanth wants to serve the people, so he fights for their problems and eventually becomes a mafia don. Nana Patekar is ambitious and he becomes a Minister by illegal means. Nana Patekar becomes a representative of upper castes while Rajinikanth represents lower castes and minorities. There will be verbal and ideological fights between them which are said to be the main asset of the film. Rajinikanth later realizes that Nana Patekar ruined his life to growing as a politician. The story is said to be based on politics, social issues, and religious harmony.
It is well known that Rajinikanth has started a political party and is going to be a full-time politician by quitting movies soon. So, he has been selecting stories that can help his political career and Kaala is no exception. The last time he came up with a politics-based film Baba in 2002 resulted in the worst commercial failure of his career. His next untitled project will be directed by the young director Karthik Subbaraj, which is also said to be based on politics. His prestigious project ‘2.0’, which is the sequel to Endhiran (Robo), has been postponed several times already and is currently in the post-production stage. This is the only commercial film from Superstar as all the recent films are dealing with politics.
