Kavacham Story

How he finds answers, solves the conspiracy, and proves his innocence forms the crux of the story.

Story Analysis

Kavacham is a blend of action and thriller that works in bits and pieces. The film starts with the recruitment of a special officer to deal with kidnap cases but it has no importance in the film. The general audience would expect a criminal gang behind it but this thread is left behind. The majority of the first half runs on flashbacks and sub-tracks. Almost all the sub-tracks have little importance in the film. The interval block is exciting with a gripping sequence and a shocking interval. Moreover, it promises a great cat and mouse game between protagonist and antagonist but fails to reach expectations.

The second half follows the same pattern by showing flashbacks and sub-tracks which have little importance in the film. However, some confusion is created using the sub-tracks to complicate the investigation. The film shifts between action and thriller genres effortlessly which may not be convincing to the general audience. Although the twists are interesting, it becomes too much towards the climax. The heavy dose of plantings and payoffs is a mess. The climax is routine and predictable.

The characters are flat and none of them change throughout the film. The protagonist is established as a smart cop using the sub-tracks. It could have been better if they used the main plot. The romance is non-existent and the chemistry between the lead pair is not convincing. The film has no emotions and many scenes appear to be mechanical. The pre-climax has some scope for emotional drama which is misused. The film becomes illogical on many levels trying to be smart. Overall, it’s a gripping thriller with unnecessary sub-tracks and illogical scenes.

Performances

Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas is good as a stereotype character. Although there is not much scope to perform, he doesn’t disappoint. He excels in action sequences. Kajal Aggarwal has a regular role with routine scenes. Mehreen has a minor role and she performs the entire sequence with a couple of expressions. Neil Nitin Mukesh is good in a serious role. Posani Krishna Murali impresses with his body language and expressions. He provides comic relief in the otherwise intense action thriller.

Technical Analysis

Kavacham has a decent script that tries to be both smart and entertaining at the same time. Any single approach could have made it a lot better. The dialogues are decent but are not memorable. The production values are top-notch. The cinematography takes the film to a whole new level. The film would have been disappointing without such stunning visuals. The music is average and the theme music is decent. However, the sound mixing is good. The action sequences are purely meant for mass audiences and are good. The editing is crisp and balanced. The direction is good but the inexperience is evident. The shot division is bad but he excels in blocking and scenic order.

Conclusion

Kavacham is better than many mass action films but has its share of illogical scenes. It has a smart script like that of Dhruva but a mass treatment like that of Singham. So, some audiences may love it and some may hate it. Overall, it’s a mixture of action and romance elements into an investigative thriller.
