Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi Story Analysis
Four childhood friends Vivek (Vishwaksen Naidu), Karthik (Sushanth Reddy), Kaushik (Abhinav Gomatam), and Uppu (Venkatesh Kakumanu) dream of making short films in college. But they give up due to personal issues. They get a chance to fulfill their dreams when they meet again. The film deals with the most common problems faced by budding filmmakers like confusion about the career, parental pressure, financial constraints, writers’ block, etc. At the soul of the film is the deep-rooted fear of budding filmmakers that people will laugh at them and they couldn’t prove themselves. The film showcases it through multiple points of view. The narrative style of the film is extremely casual with the cinematography and music complementing it all the time.
At the beginning of the film, every lead actor has Two choices in life. The heartbroken Vivek can live behind his sunglasses masking his inner fears or face the reality, Karthik can give up his dream of being a cinematographer to climb up the social ladder, Abhinav can survive with insults at home leaving behind his desire to be an actor, Uppu can settle as a wedding photographer forgetting his passion to be a film editor. They live to please society but never enjoy their life. They get an opportunity to get over their illusions and follow their dreams.
The first half has gripping narration and a fast pace but the second half slows down due to conflicts. The film doesn’t have any message or melodrama and it never gets preachy while subtly delivering the message through its characters. There is a lot of hope and optimism in the film. The dialogues are terrific and the humor is spontaneous.
Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi Performances
Vishwaksen delivered a very good performance in the first half but the other characters overshadow him in the second half. Sushanth is terrific and his presence is felt throughout the film. Abhinav is impressive with his timing and spontaneity. Venkatesh is good in his role. Anish Ambrose doesn’t have much scope to perform but she is good. Simran Chowdary has a limited screen time and she impresses with her subtlety.
Conclusion
Inspired from Hang Over, over the screenplay format of Pelli Chupulu, spiced up with real-life incidents of the director, Tharun Bhascker, Ee Nagariniki Emaindi is a treat to watch. There are references and influences of other buddy films like Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, etc. While ‘Pelli Chupulu’ is a destination, ‘Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi’ is the road that leads to it. The tag line ‘Nee gang tho ra theatre ki, chuskundam’ perfectly suits the film. It’s a film to watch with your best friends.
