Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava is an action film starring Jr NTR and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. Jagapathi Babu, Naga Babu, Naveen Chandra, and Eesha Rebba played other important roles. S. Radhakrishna produced the film under Harika and Hassine Creations while Trivikram Srinivas has written and directed it. The film was released worldwide on 11th Oct 2018.
Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava Story
Nallagudi and Kommadi villages have differences over a minor conflict that became a regional feud for decades. Basi Reddy (Jagapathy Babu) and Narappa Reddy (Nagababu) lead the two villages. The son of Narappa Reddy, Veera Raghava Reddy (Jr NTR), arrives from London after completing his education to witness the murders of his father and uncles, and out of rage, kills their opponents. The people around him start to see a next-generation faction leader in him but his grandmother advises him to put an end to the rivalry for the good of the people. He leaves for Hyderabad and accidentally meets Aravindha (Pooja Hegde), who shows him a path to solve the rivalry without the bloodshed. How he solved the feud in their villages forms the crux of the story.
Story Analysis
The story is established within the first 20 minutes of the film. The majority of the scenes from the teaser, trailer, and promos are from the beginning of the film which establishes a faction revenge drama like most films of the late 90s and early 2000s. However, the story takes a U-turn and moves in the direction to put an end to the rivalry which may not appeal to the audiences who expect a mass film.
The first half starts with a bang and immediately switches to entertainment until the interval. It is entertaining but the audiences want it to pass quickly so that they can watch the action in the second half of the film. Moreover, too many key characters have been introduced at the beginning and the story suddenly leaves them behind. This is a typical problem of scenic order and an experienced writer or editor could have suggested considerable changes. Additionally, the romance between the lead pair didn’t work well. Most of the minor characters in the first half are not interesting mainly because they don’t help the story progress. The comedy worked here and there.
The second half begins on an interesting note. The role of Aravindha should have been like a guide but time and again she is projected as a burden. The documentary on factionism didn’t work and this concept is pretty bad. The timing of songs in the second half is not good and seems forced. However, the climax is satisfactory and syncs well with the message the film wanted to convey.
Performances
Jr NTR has given his best like always and this is one of his best performances. The role requires a lot of subtlety and Jr NTR is convincing in every aspect of the narration. Pooja Hegde ruined her part and someone else could have made the role stand out. She overacts in some scenes and doesn’t act in some others. Additionally, the chemistry between Jr NTR and Pooja Hegde is one of the major flaws of the film. Jagapathy Babu is menacing as a factionist and his makeup gives an instant impression about his character. Nagababu has limited scope and he is good. Eesha Rebba played a minor supporting role which doesn’t offer much. Naveen Chandra is surprisingly good and his acting in some crucial scenes is superb. Sunil played a regular comic role which is not up to the expectations.
Technical Analysis
The script is flawed and there is some scope for improvement. The dialogues are superb and the Rayalaseema dialect added realism to the dialogues. The production values are top-notch. The camera work is extraordinary and the film offers some of the finest visuals. Moreover, the drone shots and Steadicam shots added depth to the visuals. The songs are decent and the background score is extraordinary. The choreography of songs is decent. The ‘Peniviti’ song is not meant for Jr NTR and it doesn’t create the same emotional impact on screen as in the audio version. The stunts are well choreographed and well-executed. The editing is decent except for the scenic order. The direction is good as expected and Trivikram Srinivas uses the right camera angles and blocking to intensify scenes and add suspense.
Conclusion
Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava is a faction drama with a touch of philosophy. The film deals with the after-effects of violence and factionism told from the perspective of women and the general public. Instead of showing violence throughout the film and preaching at the climax, the film has an inherent message. Watch it for the performance of Jr NTR and the dialogues of Trivikram Srinivas.
