Aankhen was a 2002 heist thriller film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Sushmita Sen, Arjun Rampal, and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. It was written and directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, and went on to become a hit at the box office. There were creative differences between the director Shah and the producer Doshi during the shooting of the film. The sequel (Aankhen 2) was announced in 2006 with some other director but that couldn’t materialize at that time.
In an interview in 2016, Anees Bazmee stated that he has been working on the script of ‘Aankhen 2’. Recently, Eros Now has announced that the sequel will feature Amitabh Bachchan along with an ensemble cast and will be produced by Eros International and Tarun Agarwal. The shooting will start next year and the film is set to release in January 2020.
As the story is set in China and orbits around a Casino, the makers are considering Jackie Chan for a role. Eros has recently produced ‘Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi’ which was also shot in China. Jackie Chan was in India for the shoot of his recent movie Kung Fu Yoga’. If Jackie Chan gets onboard, the scale and reach of the film will increase. Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, the film might also star Sushant Singh Rajput and Vicky Kaushal in prominent roles.
