Harish Shankar didn’t launch his next film since Duvvada Jagannadham. Although he had Dil Raju waiting for him to come up with the script, Harish Shankar wasn’t happy with his script. He almost locked in the script for a romantic entertainer titled Nalugu Sthambhalata but the project couldn’t materialize. Last year, he put the project on hold and moved on to remake the Tamil blockbuster Jigarthanda and worked on the script for over 3 months to adapt it to Telugu sensibilities. Varun Tej signed in the project to play the antagonist. However, the characterization may change in the remake. Harish Shankar, Varun Tej film is going to launch on 27th January 2019.
Jigarthanda is a 2014 Tamil gangster drama film featuring Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon, and Bobby Simha in lead roles. The film received both critical and commercial success at the box office. The story deals with a short filmmaker who gets an opportunity to direct a feature film if comes up with a story based on a real-life gangster. He meets a notorious gangster and the rest of the story is about how he makes his film. Harish Shankar roped in Varun Tej to play the gangster, played by Bobby Simha in the original version. It is not disclosed yet who will play the roles of Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon. Jigarthanda was dubbed into Telugu as Chikkadu Dorakadu but most audiences are not familiar with the film.
Varun Tej attained craze among youth with his selection of scripts and variation of genres with each film. The success of F2: Fun and Frustration helped Varun Tej gain more fans. Harish Shankar wants to grab the opportunity and start the film soon. Ram Achanta and Gopi Achanta are producing the film together on the 14 Reels banner. Varun Tej is also eager to change his image with a non-routine role. Bobby Simha has done a lot of homework for the role and met real-life gangsters in order to play his role to perfection. It has to be seen how well Varun Tej pulls it off. The film may release in the latter half of the year.
